Based on a true story, you will find out how tough and how hard Yakao had to fight to stay in school, a place he really loved. With the struggle of two life threatening wars (the French conflict, the 1960 coup d’Etat in Laos and the wide spread Vietnam War) Yakao, his parents, his siblings, and his people, the Hmong, led a difficult life of dealing with the nightmare of the war. With no peace of mind to study Yakao was determined to finish school.
This book combines laughter, sadness, and the struggles of one man’s journey. Read about how Yakao’s education lead him from being a skilled nurse draftee to a young grade school teacher helping to educate the young refugee children. His education led him back to school to pursue his dream of being the youngest professor in Laos.
Yakao married Lykao Iaong through a prearrangement by his family. Their married led to a happy and wonderful life with a good profession. With the volatility of the war, Yakao was forced to abandon his profession and to leave the country he loved. Yakao and his family become a refugee in Thailand, then came to the United States to find freedom and a better life.
